The Rocky Mountains were formed when two plates were pushing together. In the south, an older mountain range was formed 300 million years ago, then eroded away. The rocks of that older range were reformed into the Rocky Mountains The Rocky Mountains took shape during an intense period of plate tectonic activity that resulted in much of the rugged landscape of the western North America. This happened 55 million years ago.

The Himalayas, in Pakistan, India, Nepal, and China, is the world's tallest mountain range. It was created when the tectonic plate that holds the Indian subcontinent ran into the Eurasian plate, which holds Europe and most of Asia. As the two plates pushed up against each other, the land was pushed up, forming the mountains. This happened 35 million years ago.

Pangea breaks apart and the continents move toward their current day positions. The movement of Earth's tectonic plates formed Pangea and ultimately broke it apart. Pangea existed during the Permian and triassic geologic time periods, which were times of great change. The continents began to move about 30 million years ago.

Grass
formed about 66 million years ago. Grass is vegetation consisting of
typically short plants with long narrow leaves, growing wild or cultivated
on lawns. Grasslands lack
the trees and heavy bush to hide many creatures. Because of the open landscape and
the widely spaced trees, grasslands are home to large herds of grazing mammals
such as the zebra and bison. AnnualRainfall
in the grasslands is between 10 to 30 inches; there is a seasonal drought every
year. Many animals are active only during the rainy season.

The extinction of dinosaurs created an opportunity for mammals or modern human groups to appear. They were a member of the genus Homo and especially of the species H. sapiens. H Sapiens are Homo sapiens and it is the scientific name for the human species. Homo is the human genus, which includes other extinct species of hominid. H sapiens is the only surviving species of the genus Homo.

Lucy the australopithecus is an extinct species of early hominid whose fossil remains were discovered in Ethiopia and have been dated at between 3.5 and 4 million years of age.She was the first nearly complete skeleton recovered for the species, found in 1974. Fieldwork at Hadar continued in the 1990s, revealing several archaeological sites which date between 6 million years ago and 150,000 years years ago.

Humans formed about 100,000 years ago. A human being, is a person as distinguished from an animal or (in science fiction) an alien. Humans are primates of the family Hominidae, and the only extant species of the genus Homo. They are distinguished by relating to of effecting to people. Humans sometimes have good or bad qualities.
